Gift Giving Options

The Michigan Aerospace Foundation is a 501 (c)(3), tax exempt organization. Gifts and Contributions are in most cases tax exempt, and may take many forms. They may be present day gifts, future pledges, or planned giving. We encourage you to consult with your attorney and your accountant as you consider the form your gifts and contributions will take. The Foundation strives to accept gifts, contributions and future pledges in as many forms as possible, allowing you the flexibility to support our efforts while maximizing the opportunities for you. Here are some of the forms your gifts may take, all of which will be properly acknowledged with the necessary receipts.

CASH - Checks are the easiest form of immediate contribution and provide the greatest flexibility for the donors tax deductions.

SECURITIES - These may include corporate stocks and bonds, bonds issued by the U. S. Government or its agencies, or shares of mutual funds. Gift receipts will be issued for fair market value. This form of contribution can reduce capital gains. Securities of closely held companies may be accepted pending review.

STOCK OPTIONS - Gifts of Stock Options in publicly traded Corporations can provide significant benefits to the donor as well as the Foundation.

TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY  - Gifts of aircraft (historic or current) art, book collections, equipment, vehicles and furniture can be receipted for fair market value determined by appraisal, which can reduce capital gains tax.

CERTIFICATES OF DEPOSIT - CDs can be assigned to the Fargo Air Museum Through POD (payable on death) designation or assigned to the Air Museum to maturity of the certificate.

RETIREMENT PLANS - Individual Retire Accounts, company-sponsored 401(k) and non-profit (403(b) plans make excellent gift vehicles.

BEQUEST (Revocable) - Cash securities, real estate and/or tangible property can be bequeathed, possibly reducing capital gains tax.

LIFE INSURANCE (Revocable) - The donor is the owner and the Foundation is the beneficiary. The Foundation receives the death benefit unless the donor changes beneficiary status. Gift receipt to the estate if death proceeds are paid to the estate and a comparable bequest is made to the Foundation. There is no gift receipt if the proceeds are paid directly to the Foundation.

LIFE INSURANCE (Irrevocable) - The Foundation is both the donor and the owner. Foundation has access to cash value with assured death benefit proceeds. Gift receipts issued as donor pays premiums.

CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY - Guaranteed life payments with reduced or eliminated tax on annuity portion.

RESIDUAL INTEREST ARRANGEMENTS - Donor reserves right to use property (real estate, art, books) for life or specified term. Gift receipt for present value and reduction in capital gains tax.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS - Guaranteed income for life or specified term with possibility of multiple beneficiaries. The Foundation can act as Trustee. Gift receipt for present value with possible reduction of capital gains tax. Property outside the donor's will therefore remains free from probate.
