The Vision of the Michigan Aerospace Foundation
The Michigan Aerospace Foundation envisons a world-class aviation museum, near the footprint of the Yankee Air Museum in Michigan, which tragically burned down in 2004. This museum will preserve the rich heritage of aviation and aerospace research that occurred in Southeast Michigan. We imagine such a museum facility as being developed well beyond the
traditional aviation museum. This museum will house research and educational facilities dedicated to encouraging young people to choose aviation and aerospace careers, while bringing this education to many who would not otherwise be exposed to it. In addition, we see this museum becoming a major tourist attraction, benefiting the economy of Southeast Michigan. And finally, in this museum we envison providing facilities and space for non-aviation-related exhibits, which fit into the overall goal of providing a comprehensive visitor experience.
The Mission of the Michigan Aerospace Foundation is to raise the funds to build such a museum, the new Yankee Air Museum, located at historic Willow Run Airport.
